Career development is an ongoing process of self-discovery. Being intentional and thoughtful about the experiences you engage in, the skills you develop, and the professional connections you make play an important role in this process. The Career Development & Internship Center (CDIC) is here to support you as you begin to complete on-hand experiences through experiential learning, internships, and research opportunities that will strengthen your skills in your area of interest.

Keep Your Resume Up To Date
As you continue to gain new experiences update your resume as you go along so you don’t forget the valuable skills you learned from each experience. Keep a running document of every internship, job, club organization, and other opportunity and the skills you learned in each one. Once it is time to for you to apply for a job or internship you will be able to choose your relevant experiences from the list for your resume. If you need help choosing what skills may be relevant for a position, or need general resume help, make an appointment with a Career advisor, we can look at your resume and give you valuable feedback.

Gain Experiences
Look for opportunities, internships, work, and volunteering are excellent ways to build your resume. Employers will look at the experiences that are relevant to the position. Gaining new experiences also helps you to discover the areas you are interested in within your major. Make an appointment with a Career Advisor or check out Handshake to learn more about internship and job opportunities in your field.

Reflect on Next Steps
You don’t have to know exactly what your decision is just yet, so use this time to continue to discover new things about yourself, to develop new skills and experiences.
If you are not sure what you want to do yet continue to network, you can attend the Alumni Career Networking Night to hear the experiences of people who may be in a position of interest. Both internships and talking with people who have been through the process is super helpful and will provide you with some clarity.
