The Urban Youth Program provides summer employment to local community youth aged 18-24. Interns participate in this “earn while you learn” program, working within the Incompass Human Services community for 10 weeks. Interns must also successfully pass or have current CPR/First Aid training.
The following duties and scope of responsibility are listed below, but are not limited to:
ADMINISTRATIVE/EDUCATION
➢Attend Urban Youth orientation and new employee orientation
➢Attend all functions sponsored by DDS (Department of Developmental Services)
➢Attend specific training opportunities to increase awareness of the day program and field of developmental disabilities
➢Attend weekly discussion groups with intern team and as required
➢Participate in performance assessment and appraisal process
➢Work as a team member in assigned serve model, following instructions from Urban Youth and department manager
➢Promote safe practices; adhere to and follow all safety policies; report any hazards to the Community Recreation and Engagement Manager or Program Managers immediately
INDIVIDUAL SUPPORT
➢Monitor individuals you are assigned to be with; know where they are and help to keep them safe
➢Help individuals to participate in and learn from the activities they engage into the best of their abilities
➢Interact with individuals demonstrating interest in them and the activities they are engaging in
➢Communicate with individuals verbally and using alternative communication
➢Provide escort and supervision to individuals going to and from classes/activities
➢Assist individuals with daily living skills and personal care needs
➢Demonstrate respect for the individuals’ rights and choices; help them to advocate and speak for themselves
➢Report medical and behavioral concerns to staff and supervisors
➢Honor people’s right to confidentiality and follow all HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability) policies
➢Understand your role and responsibility as a mandated reporter
RECORDS AND DOCUMENTATION
➢Complete data documentation as directed and trained by your supervisor
➢Report all incidents and unusual occurrences to your supervisor
➢Complete incident reports, seizure reports, and other reports as directed
➢Follow all agency policies and procedures
