Duties: Analyze financial reports, records, and documents of correctional institutions through field audits and desk reviews to determine compliance with established policies and procedures. Audit financial/operational records by reconciling financial transactions, perform audit procedures, meet standards for fieldwork, and prepare written results of audit examinations. Follow-up with corrective action as applicable. Perform other duties as required. Shall be required to enter correctional facilities. Minimum Entrance Requirements: MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must have at least (A) three years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience in accounting or auditing, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below. Substitutions: I. A Bachelor’s degree with a major in accounting, business administration or business management may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience. * II. A Graduate degree with a major in accounting, business administration or business management may be substituted for a maximum of two years of the required experience. * *Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed. Note: Educational substitutions will only be permitted for a maximum of two years of the required experience. Special Requirements: Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class 3 Motor Vehicle Operator’s license may be required. Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of the principles and practices of auditing and accounting. Knowledge of the principles of the generally Accepted governments Auditing Standards (GAGAS). Knowledge of the methods of general report writing. Knowledge of the methods used in the preparation of charts, graphs, and tables. Ability to analyze and determine the applicability of financial data, to draw conclusions and make appropriate recommendations. Ability to read and interpret documents such as financial reports, accounts and ledgers, Ability to perform mathematical calculations using formulas to solve accounting problems. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to gather information by examining records, documents and through interviewing individuals. Ability to maintain accurate records. Ability to prepare general and financial reports. Ability to write concisely to express thoughts clearly and to develop ideas in a logical manner. Comments: This is a Civil Service position. Please note that salaries for union positions are determined according to the provisions of the respective collective bargaining agreement. The Massachusetts Department of Correction shall not hire anyone who may have direct contact with offenders, who has engaged in sexual abuse in a prison or other institution as defined in 42 U.S.C. 1997; or has been convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse, or has been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described in the above paragraph.
