Mission:
The mission of Boston Outdoor Preschool Network (BOPN) is to meet the developmental needs of the whole child while initiating them into a lifelong relationship with the natural world. We are committed to expanding access to nature-based early childhood education.
What We Do:
BOPN is a nonprofit organization focused on nature-based early education, with programs in Boston, Milton, Malden, Sudbury, Sherborn, and Natick. We bring families together in community and give children a joyfully muddy childhood under the loving guidance of dedicated teachers. Our programs combine early childhood and environmental education. Our goals are to promote children’s physical and mental health, encourage environmental stewardship, and to develop habits of mind such as curiosity, initiative, persistence, creativity, problem-solving, and responsibility.
Position Goals: to showcase our terrific staff, engage families, build brand awareness, and ultimately to communicate our values: caring for the earth and caring for one another. This is the right fit for a personable and engaging junior, senior, or recent college graduate who can skillfully manage multiple responsibilities across several locations in the greater Boston area.
Schedule and Compensation:
- Dates: June 17 – August 30 (flexible if needed)
- Hours: 240 hours in total
- Compensation: $20/hour
Responsibilities and Duties:
Create “staff spotlight” features:
- Conduct interviews with BOPN teachers, youth workers, and administrators
- Transcribe and edit interviews (either written or video)
- Write a blog post that pulls together the most compelling interview content and reflects on the themes that emerge
- Create a slideshow featuring our summer youth workers
Engage Families:
- Create social media content based on video and/or written interviews with families
- Invite families to enroll in additional weeks of summer program as space allows
- Follow up with families as needed to achieve a high response rate on feedback surveys
- Distribute marketing materials such as car magnets
- Co-host playground meet-ups for families as needed
Represent the organization at events:
- Represent the organization at farmers markets and community events (Saturday availability required for farmers markets)
- Set up/take down the BOPN table
- Manage and transport supplies
Post fliers:
- Work with our marketing team to plan flyering strategy
- Post fliers in Milton, Sherborn, Natick, Sudbury, and the surrounding areas
Teaching:
- Substitute teach in an assistant role as needed
Conduct Research (optional add-on for Anthropology majors/graduates):
- Conduct ethnographic research to gain insight into various constituencies at BOPN, analyzing data to identify patterns, themes, and insights. Communicate findings and make recommendations to leadership.

Qualifications:
- City of Boston resident ages 19 – 24 (college juniors, seniors, and graduates preferred)
- Excited to support the mission of the organization
- Experience in customer service or other people-facing positions
- Ability to travel to Sherborn, Natick, Sudbury, Milton, Malden, and surrounding areas
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of ages and personalities. Outgoing and personable.
- Able to represent the organization in an engaging and professional manner
- Comfortable introducing yourself and getting to know the BOPN community. Able to make people feel at ease.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Comfortable cold-calling as needed to achieve marketing objectives
- Executive function needed to juggle multiple responsibilities and deadlines
- Preferred: Bilingual in Spanish
