Why did you choose Assumption’s School Counseling graduate program? What aspects of the program interest you?

I am currently attending Assumption for my undergrad in Human Services and Rehabilitation Studies, and it has completely felt like home. When I discovered that Assumption has a School Counseling program, I knew I wanted to continue my education at Assumption. The School Counseling program at Assumption has their students complete Pre-Practicum and Practicum to be able to learn alongside licensed School Counselors as well as apply knowledge and skills learned in the classroom to real-life experiences!

What skills did you gain during your undergraduate career at Assumption will set you up for success in your graduate program?

During my undergraduate career at Assumption, I had a chance to complete a 400-hour internship at Auburn Middle School in the Guidance Department. This internship allowed me to work alongside licensed School Counselors. I was exposed to several day-to-day tasks a School Counselor experiences such as 504/IEP plan meetings and advising students grades 6-8 on academic and social-emotional issues through one-on-one check-ins. The skills I gained from the internship will continue to grow as I begin my graduate program at Assumption!

What are your career goals? How will this program help you reach those goals?

I want to be a Middle School School Counselor! This program will help prepare me by gaining valuable skills and knowledge needed to become a successful school counselor!

What are you looking forward to most about graduate school?

I am looking forward to beginning the next journey in my education career and learning alongside experienced and knowledgeable professors!

What advice would you give to a student who is interested in applying to graduate school?

Look into the learning goals and what others have said about the school’s programs! You will know where you’re meant to continue learning next just by trusting your gut!
