Matthew: On any given day, I am participating in various internal cybersecurity audits, attending meetings for the audits, and training for the CISA exam.

Interviewer: Describe any major projects or accomplishments you were involved in. If you have not yet started this experience, what projects are you hoping to participate in? What are you hoping to accomplish?

Matthew: I am hoping to successfully complete the audits I am currently assigned and further my knowledge in the role for future audits. I also look forward to training and taking the CISA exam to further my career.

Interviewer: What are your career goals? How does this job position align with these goals?

Matthew: I hope to eventually become a Cybersecurity manager. This position aligns with this goal as I am beginning my career in the cybersecurity field, focused on data protection, and is the first step in gaining experience and knowledge needed to continue advancing my career.

Interviewer: What skills have you gained/hope to gain through this position?

Matthew: I have gained skills in tools such as Excel, various cybersecurity programs, Python, presenting, and writing. I hope to gain my CISA in order to advance my skills in IT auditing.

Interviewer: Why did you apply to this job position? What aspects of the position/company interest you?

Matthew: I applied for this position first because it was exactly what I was looking for, in terms of a Cybersecurity position, focused on data privacy. Secondly, because the company’s’ mission as well as their opportunity for growth and their care for their employees really resonated with me.

Interviewer: What advice would you give to a student who wants to apply to a similar job position?

Matthew: My advice would be to become extremely good in Excel and the foundations of IT security. I would also recommend to ask a lot of questions and be very curious and interested. You learn something new every day and you have to be able to manage a fast-paced environment and adapt to different challenges thrown your way.
