The following are qualifications required for selection:

  • Post 9/11 US Veteran
  • DD 214 indicating an honorable discharge or general discharge (under honorable conditions) on a case-by-case basis. Acceptance into this program is contingent on proof of Veteran status
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Successfully pass a criminal background check
  • Be comfortable and willing to live and work with veterans from all branches of service
  • Wildland firefighting demands a high level of fitness to work in difficult environmental conditions, including steep terrain, extreme temperatures, altitude and smoke
  • Must pass SCA’s medical screening
  • Must pass the Work Capacity (Pack) Test at the “arduous” level. The Pack Test consists of completing a 3-mile hike with 45-pound pack in 45 minutes
