Mission Statement

The iHOPE school community strives to provide comprehensive services for our students, who present with a variety of diagnoses including Traumatic Brain Injury, Acquired Brain Injury, and other brain-based disorders. Our students participate in academic instruction with appropriate modification and adaptation, as well as therapeutic services, based upon a collaborative, researched-based model that integrates current technology. iHOPE is committed to learners with complex needs and to their social, emotional, adaptive and educational advancement. Position Summary:

The Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) is responsible for providing direct services to the students as well as supervising CFYs, graduate students.

Essential Functions:

  • Provides intensive speech and language therapy and feeding therapy services.
  • Assesses and develops therapeutic plans that will address the communication, AAC, oral motor, and feeding needs of the students based on their individual strengths and challenges.
  • Documents progress on daily session notes, quarterly progress notes, and yearly evaluations and updating of IEPs.
  • Communicates and collaborates with parents and medical professionals as needed specifically as they impact upon the student’s educational plan.
  • Collaborates with the teachers and other related service providers within the school setting to ensure that a comprehensive educational plan is in place to meet the child’s individual needs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s Degree in degree in Communication Disorders or Speech and Language Pathology.
  • Current NYSED registration as a Speech/Language Pathologist required.
  • NYSED certificate as a Teacher of the Speech and Hearing Handicapped (TSHH) or Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities (TSSLD) required.
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence required.

Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong writing and organizations skills.
  • Experience and knowledge of AAC/AT and communication applications.
  • Experience and knowledge of oral motor structures and function.
  • Experience and knowledge about swallowing and feeding issues.
  • Experience and knowledge of working with children with complex physical and communication needs.
  • Experience with speech motor disorders and/or training in PROMPT a plus.
  • Experience and knowledge of writing IEP goals and performing SLP assessments.

Compensation Range:

  • $68,000 to $83,500 per year
