Job Description:
The University of Saint Joseph is seeking applications for a 9 month, full-time, tenure-track faculty member in our highly regarded Master in Social Work (MSW) Program to begin in August 2025. Both the BSW and MSW programs are CSWE-accredited and are housed in the Department of Social Work and Equitable Community Practice in the School of Interdisciplinary Health and Science.
The MSW Program prepares social workers for community-based clinical practice in labor force shortage areas such as health and mental health, and children and family services. Our MSW Program features an innovative model of field education in which university-employed clinical preceptors supervise students in select agencies and institutions. Applicants must be prepared to teach a variety of courses, including advanced practice courses, in both in-person and online/hybrid formats.
We seek a creative and innovative faculty member with a commitment to advancing human rights, social justice, racial equity and dismantling systems of oppression in social work practice. Qualified applicants will have a trauma-informed clinical background; demonstrate strong teaching and research skills; the ability to engage collaboratively with the department and community colleagues; experience in developing relationships and networks with culturally diverse communities; the ability to forge partnerships with a variety of organizations and the ability to mentor and develop social work students. Priority areas of experience and knowledge include (but are not limited to) substance abuse treatment, crisis intervention, school social work, police social work, medical, pediatric or gerontological social work. Requirements:
Education & Experience
- Earned doctorate in social work or a closely related field by the appointment start date is required and an MSW degree from a CSWE-accredited program.
- 2 or more years of post-MSW clinical practice experience (5+ preferred)
- Experience teaching in higher education
- Practice and research experience in social work
- Record of engaged research and practice with culturally diverse communities and intersectional lens
- Familiarity with evidence-based practice models and community-engaged research
- Eligibility for clinical social work licensure preferred
- Strong record of working with diverse student and/or employee population
- Commitment to the mission of the University of Saint Joseph
- Physical ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
