Department of Biology at the University of Kentucky is seeking a laboratory technician to join a newly established research group studying signaling and transcriptional network in stem cells. This position is specifically looking for an individual who is trained in experimentation with mice. As a laboratory technician, you will have the opportunity to be involved in both administrative activities within the lab.
The lab technician will be responsible for two major aspects within the lab: (1) Research: A lab technician will perform supervised research in the area of animal physiology and cell biology. As a research technician, you will be tasked with maintaining mouse colony, set up breeding and perform genotyping. An experience with an oral gavage or intraperitoneal (I.P.) injection will be a strong plus. A motivated lab technician will have the opportunity to expand their scientific and technical repertoire to advance their career options further due to multidisciplinary nature of the lab. (2) Administration: Lab technician will assist the investigator in the establishment of lab protocols, reagent inventory, and create a bar coded catalog of cell lines, plasmids, and other reagents.
Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, or other related scientific disciplines in a related field or equivalency required; knowledge of complex laboratory techniques, equipment, terminology, materials, and substances is required. Skilled in the use of laboratory equipment, ability to create and analyze statistical calculations and prepare reports required; and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required.

Experience in techniques related to animal colony management research is strongly preferred. Ideal candidates will have a baccalaureate degree in a scientific discipline and 3-6 years of experience working in a research laboratory environment. The position is a yearly contract, renewable with pay raise every year.
