PROGRAM DIRECTOR EPIDEMIOLOGY
DEPARTMENT: HEALTH DEPARTMENT
NATURE OF WORK:
This is a professional position that under the direction of the Director of Health is responsible for maintaining surveillance of the state of health and the occurrence of disease in specialized population groups. Typical duties include: Design, conduct, analyze and report surveys of disease level or health risk levels in the community. Comment, review and evaluate data including case reports, health statistics, demographic information and the results of laboratory tests to identify possible epidemiological trends, locations and sources.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS include:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Masters’ degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, two years of experience in a local public health agency, and at least 1 year of direct or transferable supervisory experience. The training and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, abilities and skills as stated in the job description, including but not limited to Knowledge of the nature and control of communicable diseases. Knowledge of the most current concepts of public health practices. Knowledge of local, state and federal communicable disease reporting requirements. Ability to design, conducts and analyze epidemiological surveys.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must already possess a Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc. (CBIC) certification or obtain certification within one year of hire. Must maintain CBIC certification throughout employment tenure.
