The Research Dental Assistant provides clinical chairside dental assisting for the Chelsea School Dental Center and the school-based prevention programs located in Boston, Chelsea, Framingham, Natick and Lawrence. Other duties relate to providing care in non-traditional dental settings - such as escorting children to and from classrooms and transporting and maintaining portable dental equipment. Why the Office of Global and Population Health?The mission of the Office of Global and Population Health (GPH) is to develop, promote, and sustain interdisciplinary domestic and international health initiatives with the aim of enhancing the educational experience of students and improving the health of our local and global communities. The Office actively supports students, faculty, and staff in their efforts to improve the health of the world's populations, and facilitates interdisciplinary health research, teaching, and practice across all departments and programs in the University, with a special emphasis on global health. Responsibilities Include:· Provides patient education to classrooms of children and by giving pre and post-operative instructions including oral hygiene instructions.· Collects patient data by reviewing medical history, and charting clinical findings as directed by the dentist.· Provides clinical support by assisting the dentist in various dental procedures, exposing radiographs, ensuring optimal patient comfort, sterilizing instruments, practicing infection control and OHSA standards in the operatory prior, during and after said procedures. · Responsible for patient record preparation, data entry and billing.· May be responsible for the ordering supplies as neededRequirements:· Minimum High School Diploma or GED· 1-3 years’ experience · The applicant does not have to have their own car, but must be willing to travel to the sites served mentioned above. Some lifting of equipment and supplies is required. · Hours vary and will include some evening work. · If selected, candidate will be required to obtain a Massachusetts Dental Assisting License and become CPR and X-ray certified.
