Internship job description
Pflaum Publishing Group, owned and published by Bayard, Inc., is seeking an bilingual editorial intern to assist the local Editorial Director and one out-of-state Spanish editor. Bayard, Inc. is located on the campus of Assumption College.
· Assist in translating content from English to Spanish
· Revise and edit Spanish content under the direction of an editor
· Aid in the development of new print and digital bilingual products
· Meet with the editorial director once a week to discuss assigned work
· Other duties as assigned
· Keep track of hours
· Respond to emails in a timely manner
· Fluency in Spanish and English (Written and Verbal)
· Religious Studies, Journalism, Communications or English major preferred
· Knowledge of religious education as well as the polity and traditions of the Catholic Church helpful
· Proficient in Word Processing software
· Good communication skills
Goals and Objectives for the position
· Assist the editorial director and the bilingual director in meeting deadlines and creating content for print and web
· Be able to handle multiple projects at once. Ability to be organized and manage time effectively
Interns are responsible for keeping track of hours and creating their weekly schedules. Interns are also given the option of splitting up their hours between working in the office and offsite (on-campus, from home, dorms etc.). Depending on deadlines and workflow, weekly hours could vary.
What is the organizational structure and how does this internship role fit into that structure?
For the course of the semester the intern will become a team member at Pflaum Publishing Group and will be working with a variety of editors and designers to meet deadlines and post content. There is an editorial director (David Dziena), who oversees all the content. There is a Spanish editor (Erika De Urquidi), two main editors (Joan McKamey and Nicholle Check) and two designers (Cassy Waung and Jennifer Poferl). Interns will mostly be working directly with the editorial director. They will work with the Spanish editor as well. Erika, Jennifer, Joan and Nicholle all work offsite. Therefore, the interns will mainly communicate with them via email and Skype.
What is the level of independence and supervision in the internship?
There is a lot of independence in this position. Interns will be responsible for keeping up with their hours and giving loose schedules for when they plan on being in the office (schedules can change weekly if desired). Interns are also given the option of splitting up their hours between working in the office and offsite (on-campus, from home, dorms etc.). There is little supervision in this position, and it is the responsibility of the intern to meet deadlines or communicate with whoever they are working with if something comes up.

· Communication- Does the intern respond to emails in a timely manner? Do they communicate with whoever they are working with if they have questions or if they need more time on an assignment?

· Willingness to learn- Does the intern have a good attitude and are they willing to take on new challenges and learn?
· Taking direction/flexibility/working as a team- Assignments and projects often go through many rounds of editing, is the intern open to making changes and working with designers and editors in order to produce the highest quality content?
· Quality of Work- Is the intern putting forth their best effort? Are they showing attention to detail and following directions?
