PHI 225 – Individual and Community

This course examines the relationship between the individual and the community and the tension that exists between the achievement of private desires and the cultivation of public spiritedness for the purpose of realizing a common good. Political, social, economic, and moral dimensions of the theme will be examined in the tradition of American individualism. The pairing of duties and responsibilities with rights and liberties will be emphasized.

Students interested in ministry, business, politics, non-profit work, criminal justice, law, counseling, social research, or community outreach would benefit from taking this course.

Pre-requisites: PHI 100 and any other intermediate PHI course (151-154)
