ENG 219 – Approaches to Media Analysis

In this course, students will analyze the function and role of mass media. Students will critically examine the evolution of mass media through active participation in discussing, reading, and viewing. Students will engage in writing theory and practical application of issues, such as media and ethics, politics and media. Last but not least, the course explores the ways in which the media informs, entertains, persuades, and manipulates our minds. Weekly writing tasks throughout the semester are linked to a research project and/or presentation.

Students interested in a career in marketing, media, communications, social media, public relations, or advertising will find this course to be beneficial.

Prerequisite: ENG 130
